Description:
A lyrical French coastal scene by Post-Impressionist painter Pierre Neveu, this original watercolour captures a quiet harbour in Brittany, with a blue fishing boat moored prominently in the foreground and a small sailboat gliding across tranquil water beyond. Neveu’s modernist sense of structure is evident in the crisp rigging lines, angled cabin windows, and simplified masts, while transparent washes describe reflected light and the soft haze of an estuary at dusk. The composition balances working-boat detail—winches, rails, and coils of rope—with an atmospheric backdrop of piers, tree silhouettes, and distant buildings.
