Excellent example of late 20th-century Spanish Mediterranean painting, executed in 1979, during a period of full artistic maturity for Rafael Batallé Mallarach. Rafael Batallé Mallarach is a Spanish painter born in 1953, associated with Mediterranean landscape painting of the second half of the 20th century. Trained within the Catalan artistic environment during the 1970s, he developed a body of work focused on popular architecture, historic villages, and humanized landscapes.
His painting is characterized by impastoed, constructive brushwork, in which color organizes the composition more than drawing, placing him within a Mediterranean post-Impressionist tradition. He has worked primarily in oil, depicting urban and rural scenes with a solid, balanced, and clearly recognizable vision.
His work has circulated in the private market and at auctions, consolidating his position as a representative figure of contemporary Spanish figurative painting with classical roots.
