About the Item
This oil on canvas painting by Regina Murphy gives the viewer a closeup view of mountain boulders and rocks in a mountain stream with craggy branches that have become snarled in the movement of the water. The branches vibrate with fuchsia color in contrast to the blue, green, and grey of the water and rocks.
Regina Murphy was a longtime resident of Oklahoma City who studied at Oklahoma City University and Louisiana Tech University as well as with many nationally known artists. Accomplished in all mediums, Regina held a signature membership in both the National Watercolor Oklahoma and Kansas Watercolor Societies. She served as an officer and as a member of the Oklahoma Art Guild, Individual Artists of Oklahoma, The Paseo Arts Association and the Oklahoma Visual Artists Coalition. She was a founding partner of Studio Six, a collective art studio and gallery in Oklahoma City’s Paseo Arts District.
Murphy’s work is included in many private and corporate art collections throughout the United States including those of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Arthur and Patty Newman, Dee and Joseph Wambaugh; Integris Medical Center, Oklahoma City; Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, Shawnee, Oklahoma; Presbyterian Hospital, Oklahoma City; Merrill Lynch, Oklahoma City; Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Oklahoma City and the State of Oklahoma Permanent Art Collection.

Murphy was a longtime resident of Oklahoma and studied at Oklahoma City University, Louisiana Tech University and at Louisiana Tech's sister school in Rome, Italy, as well as with numerous nationally known instructors. She traveled the world for study and pleasure to places such as Holland, France, Morocco, Bali, China, Hawaii, Mexico, and Guatemala. Murphy's artwork was a staple in solo and juried exhibitions and competitions in the region. In addition, her artwork is included in numerous permanent collections including the Oklahoma State Art Collection, and the collections at the University of Science and Art of Oklahoma in Chickasha, Oklahoma and the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
