About the Item

The North presents a mesmerizing seascape under an expansive, tumultuous sky. Broad, dynamic brushstrokes in a palette dominated by purples and blues convey a sense of movement and drama with the textured cloud formations suggesting an impending storm. A faint blush of pink hints at a fleeting sunset or sunrise. Below, the horizon divides the painting, with the calm, dark blue sea contrasting starkly against the richly textured land, which appears rugged and untamed. This piece exemplifies the power of nature, highlighting the Richards skill in conveying mood and atmosphere through bold color choices and brushwork, creating an intense visual experience. Richard K Blades is an expressive English landscape painter in the English Romantic tradition.  He follows in a long line of artists such as Turner, Constable, Seago, Daubigney and Courbet who chose the sky, sea and land as their source of inspiration.  Painting with oil on board his works use thick paint to capture the crash of a wave, the setting sun, the whistle of a gentle breeze or roar of a blowing gale. The span of centuries matters little. Technology has advanced, society has shifted, but the landscape is always there, as something eternal, the ever-changing muse, always present, yet never the same.

The Wave, Original painting, Landscape, Contemporary
By Helen Robinson
Located in Deddington, GB
The Wave By Helen Robinson [2020] The Wave is one of a series of contemporary abstracted seascapes exploring the way light interacts with sky, earth and water. This work suggests the way light reflects on the ever-changing tidal channels which make intricate patterns through areas of saltmarsh. The use of bright colour, expressive brushmarks and tonal blending present a calm scene, with the suggestion of a white wave just below the horizon. Additional Information: original Oil on canvas board Image size: H:40 cm x W:40 cm Complete Size of Unframed Work: H:40 cm x W:40 cm x D:1cm Frame Size: H:47 cm x W:47 cm x D:4cm Sold Framed Please note that insitu images are purely an indication of how a piece may look Helen Robinson's atmospheric oil paintings represent impressionable moments in her life, mostly inspired by her love of travel and the sea. Following a career in town planning, Helen pursued her interest in art and has now been painting regularly for over 15 years. In 2013, she obtained an Honours degree in Art History when she found she was drawn mostly to artists who painted light. Influences include the 17th century Dutch landscape painters and William Turner, particularly his works. Helen's recent paintings are contemporary sea and cloudscapes which have a strong sense of light, mystery and drama. Memories and photographs of travel and sailing experiences provide the starting point for her work which then evolves in a more abstracted way. She focuses on the way light interacts with sky, earth and water - both vast expanses of sea and intricate salt marshes with their detailed patterns of water...
