About the Item

This lovely painting of the Rhondda Valley in Wales was exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1969, No. 385. Robert King RI RSMA was born in Leicester in 1936 and attended Leicester College of Art (1952-54). His work has been shown over the years at a number of prestigious London galleries including the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute, London and the Paris Salon. He had his first solo show in 1970 and his first solo exhibition in London at the Medici Gallery in 1980. In 1976, he became a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and in 1985 he was elected to the Royal Society of Marine Artists. In March 2012, Robert was awarded the Turner Watercolour Award for outstanding paintings. This prize is given by the Turner bequest and divided equally between the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Watercolour Society, where it is judged by the President and Vice President of each society together with the great great niece of Turner. In addition to his recognised skill as an artist, Robert's ability to paint such a broad range of subjects sets him apart from most other contemporary artists. He has painted figurative, still life and topographical compositions, including views from as far away as North Africa and the Middle East, the Mediterranean and most of Europe as well as his beloved beaches and estuaries of the South Coast, Cornwall, Norfolk and elsewhere in the UK. His paintings have also covered sporting events, such as the Henley Regatta and Cowes. Over the years he has established a large following for his work with collectors all over the world. The bespoke hand-made frame is 41x47 cms (16 x 18.5 inches).
