A vibrant and nostalgic oil on canvas painting by artist Robert Lebrone, where he captures a lively 20th Century winter evening street scene in near the Flatiron Building in New York City. Lebrone was an impressionist painter known for his colorful cityscapes depicting the times of his generation. His work is comparable to that of Jules Herve, Antoine Blanchard, and Edouard Cortes. This painting is a wonderful example of his work from the prime of his career. Here you see figures dashing across the street with cars and buses by the iconic "Flatiron Building" at nighttime in the snow. It evokes the bustling energy of the era when horse-drawn carriages, trolleys, and pedestrians shared the snowy streets. The wide, snow-covered Fifth Avenue is flanked by the iconic Flatiron Building, imposing brownstone and brick buildings that rise dramatically into a moody, glowing twilight sky. The buildings feature the classic early skyscraper elements, including the rows of illuminated windows, ornate cornices, and domed or flat rooftops. The street lamps are depicted with bright orange globes, casting a cozy, golden light that contrasts beautifully with the cool blues and whites of the winter atmosphere. The details are magnificent as Lebrone captures the architecture of New York City so beautifully; you can feel the energy of the day and the excitement. The painting is signed lower right and has the artist's stamp on verso. It comes housed in an ornate gold tone frame with linen liner and golden lip, and hanging wire on verso ready to be displayed.

Robert Lebron was born in 1928 in New York City. At a young age, he moved from New York to Puerto Rico with his fisherman cousin, who told Lebron about the perils of the sea. Inspired by these tales, Lebron and his cousin would illustrate these stories on old paper bags. He returned to New York a few years later and, at age 14, was admitted to New York City's High School of Music and Arts. He studied for three years before he gave in to his youthful impatience and joined the United States Air Force, forging his parents' signatures to join underage. He soon started drawing cartoons for the camp newspaper and quickly graduated to the animation department of the Air Force's motion picture unit.
Robert Lebron developed his own personal technique during an extended stay in Spain. Rendering buildings and cityscapes with a palette knife is one quality that distinguishes his work. Lebron painted professionally for almost forty years and is recognized as an important American impressionist. He has had numerous successful shows and exhibitions, and the number of collectors of his work is growing steadily. His paintings can be found in prestigious collections in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Great Britain, and Japan. Robert Lebron passed away on August 31, 2013.
