Oil on cardboard Signed in the middle at the bottom 54x42 cm Rudolf Zender (1901-1988) is one of the most important realists in Swiss art. He trained as a painter in Frankfurt and Paris. His work was influenced by New Objectivity. He spent a large part of his life in Paris, where, through his engagement with French painting and German Expressionism, he shaped the face of Swiss painting. He is considered a key figure in Swiss painting and is the most important Winterthur painter of the 20th century—along with his contemporaries Max Gubler and Varlin.
