About the Item
"Winter Refuge," 2025 is a mixed media painting by Sandra Pratt. The composition centers on a red barn situated in a snowy landscape, surrounded by leafless trees. The sky is rendered in pale blue and white tones, while the ground is covered with thick white snow. The barn's vibrant red contrasts sharply against the muted grays, whites, and dark browns of the surrounding natural elements. The surface reveals heavy impasto, built up with a palette knife to create textured layers that mimic the rough bark of the trees, the smooth snow, and the weathered wood of the barn. The paint surface shows visible ridges and highlights that shift with the viewer's angle. The bare trees frame the barn, adding vertical elements to the otherwise horizontal composition. Sandra Pratt
Sandra Pratt (b. 1978) Self-taught American artist Sandra Pratt creates evocative landscape paintings that capture the essence of place through bold, expressive palette knife work. Her distinctive approach transforms humble subjects, weathered barns, mountain vistas, village alleyways, into compositions of remarkable emotional resonance. Working exclusively wet-into-wet in a single session, Pratt's paintings possess an immediacy and authenticity that collectors prize. "I like to see how simple I can make painting in one sitting," says Pratt. "Sometimes I will make five paintings in a day... once you get on a good roll, that sixth painting is going to be the best one." Pratt's refined color palette emphasizes fundamental hues, red, yellow, and blue, occasionally anchored by earth tones or grays. This deliberate limitation creates natural harmony while allowing her to focus on the relationships between shapes, spaces, and edges. Pratt is represented by several prestigious galleries throughout the United States, including Abend Gallery in Denver, CO. She currently lives and works in Boulder, drawing inspiration from the dramatic landscapes of the Rocky Mountains. Her work continues to captivate collectors with its emotional depth and masterful simplicity.

"Christmas Decoration" is unframed but ready to hang, offering a poignant glimpse into the modern American landscape through Sato's distinctive lens.
Artist Bio & Statement:
Hiroshi Sato was born September 1987 in Japan. From the age of three to fourteen he spent his childhood in Tanzania. While there, he recognized where he lived was not home, and where he called home was some place he hardly ever knew. From a very young age, he understood he was not a participant of his surroundings. Therefore, his role was of an observer. This recognition and his exposure to alternate cultures, class, wealth, language is his backdrop to his interest in perception and how it is explored in the singular image.
He enrolled in the fine-arts program at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, graduating with a Bachelors and Masters in Fine Art.
Hiroshi Sato is focused on contemporary realist oil painting. He is best known for paintings of figures in an interior environment. He draws influence from past and present artists including Vermeer, Degas, Andrew Wyeth, Euan Uglow, Hopper and Chuck Close. Sato’s work shows his interest in geometric design principles of the old masters and is currently exploring the simultaneous illusion of form and flatness in space. His goal is to portray, and better understand our various states of consciousness within ourselves through the visual medium.
Hiroshi Sato’s work has been featured in various publications such as Fine Art Connoisseur, Juxtapoz Magazine...
