About the Item
The infinite view of a prairie landscape has long influenced the contemporary artwork of Sasha Rogers. In this abstract painting, the Canadian artist masterfully uses colour, light and gestural brushstrokes to capture the natural beauty of the sea. Rendered in shades of blue, white and dark gray, the viewer’s eye is drawn toward the apparition of a ‘horizon line’. A signature of Rogers' work, the ‘line’ divides the canvas in two creating an upper and lower colour field.
“The line we think we see doesn’t actually exist in nature, the horizon line is a symbol invented to describe the in-between place of sky and land or sea and sky; it is an invented mark for an ambiguous state or liminal space.” Sasha Rogers
Sasha Rogers acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors in Drawing and Painting at the University of Saskatchewan. A Master of Visual Arts in Painting followed at the University of Alberta where she received the highest distinction given for outstanding research in visual arts. Rogers taught painting and drawing at both the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Toronto. She has had numerous solo exhibitions in Canada, has attended international art fairs and her artwork is held in many corporate collections nationwide. Private collectors span the globe including Canada, the U.S., and Europe.

Sasha Rogers
Sasha Rogers, daughter of premier artist Otto Rogers, received her master's degree in painting in 1987 and was a painting instructor for 12 years. She has been primarily focused on solo exhibits and international art fairs and is in numerous private collections in Canada, the USA and Europe. Rogers' works have been influenced by the work of William Turner, Mark Rothko, Agnes Martin, Antoni Tàpies and her father, Otto Rogers. What collectively draws her to these great artists is their dedication to evocative metaphors rather than literal descriptions. Rogers states, "They invite rather than prescribe."
