About the Item
Longing instant at dusk #15 is a unique painting by Japanese contemporary artist Shoko Okumura. This painting is made with pigments and silver leaf on Japanese paper mounted on wood panel, dimensions are 42 × 22 cm (16.5 × 8.7 in). Dimensions of the framed artwork are 59 x 36 x 4 cm (23.2 × 14.2 × 1.6 in).
The artwork is signed, sold framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This painting captures a twilight sky where soft pinks and purples dissolve into deep blue, framed by the silhouettes of slender tree branches. Two luminous trails cross the clouds diagonally, while faint stars emerge in the stillness of evening.
Part of the Ephemeral Moments series, Shoko Okumura’s work reflects on the fragile beauty of fleeting instants in nature. Inspired by the Japanese concept of mono no aware—an awareness of life’s impermanence, tinged with quiet melancholy—these compositions poetically suspend the transitional light of dusk, when colors shift with every passing second. The series invites viewers to contemplate change itself, and to find within it an unexpected sense of permanence.
“Life is made up of permanent and temporary things, which are both beautiful and harmonious at the same time. We should enjoy and admire every moment of it.” — Shoko Okumura
Okumura’s paintings explore the intimate bond between humans and nature. Drawing on Shinto beliefs that see the natural world as sacred and animated by invisible forces, she gives life to landscapes through delicate brushwork, enriched with gold and silver leaf. Her work celebrates nature as vibrant and ever-changing, where every detail carries meaning. By fixing transient moments on paper, she transforms them into meditations on time and existence.
Born in Tokyo in 1983, Shoko Okumura bridges Japanese and Italian artistic traditions. Trained in traditional Japanese painting and fresco restoration in Florence, she has developed a singular technique combining gold leaf on Japanese paper with pigments from both cultures. Based between Milan and Tokyo, she has exhibited regularly in Europe and Japan since 2010, while also collaborating in fields such as fashion and jewellery.
