About the Item
Longing instant at dusk #7 is a unique painting by Japanese contemporary artist Shoko Okumura. This painting is made with pigments and silver leaf on Japanese paper mounted on wood panel, dimensions are 42 × 22 cm (16.5 × 8.7 in). Dimensions of the framed artwork are 60 x 37 cm (23.6 × 14.6 in). The artwork is signed, sold framed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This painting depicts a serene sky shifting from warm tones along the horizon to a deep blue above, gently framed by slender tree branches. A luminous trail cuts across the clouds, while faint stars begin to shimmer in the evening glow.
In Ephemeral Moments, Shoko Okumura captures the fragile beauty of nature’s transitions. The series draws on the Japanese notion of mono no aware—a sensitivity to impermanence and a quiet melancholy in the passing of things. Each composition poetically preserves twilight’s fleeting transformations, when light and color evolve from one instant to the next. Ephemeral Moments invites viewers to linger in what is about to change, discovering within transience an unexpected sense of emotional continuity.
“Life is made up of permanent and temporary things, both beautiful and harmonious at the same time. We should enjoy and admire every moment of it.” — Shoko Okumura
Okumura’s work consistently explores the dialogue between humanity and the natural world. Inspired by Shinto traditions, which see nature as sacred and animated by invisible forces, her paintings breathe life into trees, skies, and landscapes through subtle details enhanced with gold and silver leaf. Nature appears vibrant and dynamic, a realm where every element resonates with meaning. By fixing transient landscapes in delicate pigments, she transforms them into meditations on time and existence.
Born in Tokyo in 1983, Okumura bridges Japanese and Italian artistic traditions. Trained in both traditional Japanese painting and fresco restoration in Florence, she developed a distinctive technique blending gold leaf on Japanese paper with pigments from both cultures. Living between Milan and Tokyo, she has exhibited across Europe and Japan since 2010, extending her practice into fields such as fashion and jewelry.

A fresh and unfaded woodblock print showing a view of cherry tree boughs heavy with glowing blossoms before a vista of rolling hills with stylized Japanese pine beneath a luminous, golden sunset.
Morihiro Sato graduated from Musashino College of Fine Art before studying under the printmaker Joichi Hoshi (1913-1979). Sato’s work focuses on the beauty of nature, particularly that of trees.
