About the Item
A very beautiful 1920's oil on canvas depicting the Seine River in Paris, by female modern British painter Sine Mackinnon.
Superb quality work by this fascinating Northern Ireland born artist, who studied at The Slade and lived for many years in Paris, where she was friends with Matisse, Utrillo and Dufy.
The work is inscribed with the artist's name on the reverse and presented in a beautiful 1920's Montparnasse frame.

Sine Mackinnon was born in Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland. She was a star pupil of Henry Tonks at the Slade School of Fine Art from 1918–20 and again 1921–24, her early work showing its influence.
Muirhead Bone admired her pictures, and his son Stephen and his wife, Mary Adshead, were friends. Sine (pronounced Shawna) was encouraged to move to Paris by her mother, where she lived in Montparnasse, encountered such painters as Matisse, Utrillo and Dufy, studied at the École des Beaux-Arts and exhibited.
She returned to London periodically where she was a prolific exhibitor, having a first solo show at Goupil Gallery in 1928, was taken up by Reid and Lefevre and also exhibited at Tooth, Fine Art Society, Redfern Gallery, NEAC and elsewhere.
She married a small-time art dealer and unexhibited painter called Rupert Fordham, whose money came from the family brewery, and they travelled extensively in Europe, staying in England during World War II.
The Tate Gallery holds her picture Farm Buildings in Provence, with many other public collections in England and France owning examples.
