Style: American Impressionist
"View From South Ferry" Oil painting Impressionist, Seascape, sailboats, framed
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
"View from South Ferry" depicts the astonishing view from Sag Harbor's South Ferry that looks directly at Shelter Island. Painted from life by American Impressionist, Nelson Holbrook White, an atmosphere of purple hues meets a sea of blue, where a single white sailboat is swiftly grabbing wind, intersecting with the dark, distant trees along the horizon. Signed by the artist, on both recto and verso. Framed in a custom Italian gold-leaf frame, as pictured. Nelson H. White was born in New London, Connecticut in 1932. White has been surrounded by art and artists from the time he was born. He received his earliest art instruction from his grandfather, Henry Cooke White (1861-1952) and his father Nelson Cooke White (1900-1989), both important American artists. The family lived in Waterford, Connecticut and the elder White had been an early member of the art colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut. Known for his paintings of the Connecticut landscape and shoreline, Henry Cooke White became a teacher to his son, Nelson Cooke White. Living with his parents at the Florence Griswold house in Old Lyme, he met some of the most important and influential artists of the day, Childe Hassam, Will Howe Foote and Harry Hoffman. Later, Nelson White's father began to take his family to summer on Shelter Island and became friendly with many of the artists of the Peconic colony such as Irving Wiles, an important American impressionist. After graduating from the Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts in 1951, Nelson H. White began to study at Mitchell College in Connecticut but left to pursue studies in the violin, musical theory and composition. At this time, he began to spend more time studying art with his father and grandfather. By 1955, Nelson H. White had decided to devote himself to a career as a painter and traveled to Florence, Italy to become an apprentice to Pietro Annigoni, the world-renowned Florentine master. Within two years, the young White had won two awards for his work. While in Florence he also studied with the great Italian teacher, Nerina Simi. Today, White divides his time between the United States and Florence. Although he has received instruction from some very important artists, White's work is highly individual. He paints with great spirit. Upon seeing his work one quickly senses White’s great love for nature and the outdoors. Through his eyes we are able to view and interpret nature in an intimate manner. Whether Nelson H. White is painting the Connecticut shore...

"Incoming Tide, Spooners Cove" contemporary realist landscape, plein air, framed
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting of high tide at Spooners Cove, California by Contemporary American artist, Joseph Paquet. Signed "J. Paquet" lower left corner, recto. Artist Bio Joseph Paquet, while pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York, had the good fortune of finding mentors in artists James McMullan and John Foote who opened his eyes to the joys of drawing the human figure. After graduating, Paquet met another major influence in his life, John Osborne, who was uniquely gifted artist and teacher. Osborne believed that a landscape painting should begin on location, but that its poetic essence should be completed in the solitude of the artist's studio. Paquet experienced a demanding and rewarding apprenticeship, in which he learned to fuse field studies with the image he could see in his mind's eye. Increasingly however, Paquet is creating most of his work from life, believing that the direct correspondence with nature increases the potential for greater feeling. "Intellect, he says, doesn't keep one warm at night." He has been featured in the Washington Post Sunday Magazine, The Artist's Magazine, American Artist, Southwest Art and Plein Air Magazine. Paquet's awards include both Artist's Choice and Collector's Choice from The 2007 Laguna Beach Plein Air Invitational as well as the 2008 Alden Bryan...

"BARN TO LAST" TEXAS LANDSCAPE NEAR FREDERICKSBURG 21 X 25 FRAMED OPA Member
Located in San Antonio, TX
Chuck Mauldin Member OPA Born 1949 Fredericksburg Artist Image Size: 14 x 18 Frame Size: 21 x 25 Medium: Oil "Barn To Last" Texas Farm Scene A native of Texas, Chuck Mauldin has been painting in oil since the age of twelve. His interest in watercolor and pencil drawing grew during his years spent in Louisiana. With his move back to Texas, he has renewed his focus on oil painting, using this medium in a realistic yet painterly style. Striving to quickly capture color and mood with a direct "alla prima" technique is one of his main objectives in painting outdoors on-location. Cows, cowboys and Native Americans often enrich the landscape in his studio work, while anything can inspire his plein air paintings. Workshops with Charles Sovek, Kevin Macpherson, and many others have played a significant role in his development as an artist. He is a member of Oil Painters of America and has achieved Signature membership status in the Louisiana Watercolor Society and the Plein Air Artists of Colorado. Chuck has won numerous awards and has had work accepted into prestigious national juried competitions, such as the Oil Painters of America National Show (2020, 2021), Western Regional Show (2016, 2021, 2022) and Salon Show (2016, 2020). After 28 years in Louisiana, Chuck and his wife, Barbara, moved to Fredericksburg, Texas, in 2005, in order to pursue their passion for art on a full-time basis. In 2008, Chuck started teaching a beginner’s oil painting class and later intermediate classes in composition, landscape painting, and limited palettes. He is represented by Charles Morin Fine Art in Fredericksburg, Texas. Degrees in chemistry from Southern Methodist University (B.S.) and the University of Texas (PhD) led to Chuck's career in research at ExxonMobil Process Research Labs in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He presently holds 57 U.S. patents in the field of catalysis. He and Barbara have two sons and a daughter, and 8 perfect grandchildren. An Eagle Scout...

"Steam Trawlers"
Located in Lambertville, NJ
Jim’s of Lambertville is proud to offer this artwork by: Henry Bayley Snell (1858 - 1943) Henry Bayley Snell was born in Richmond, England, on September 29, 1858 and immigrated to the United States at the age of seventeen. He studied at the Art Students League in New York while working for an etching and engraving company where he began a lifelong friendship with fellow artists, William Langson Lathrop. While in New York Snell met another artist, named Florence Francis, also of English descent, whom he would eventually marry in 1888. It is believed that they first came to Bucks County in 1898 to visit the Lathrops at Phillips Mill. Snell was a beloved teacher at the Philadelphia School of Design for Women from 1899 to 1943, and often took his art classes abroad during the summer. He would frequently visit his native England, spending time at the art colony of St. Ives on the coast of Cornwall. Snell would summer in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and Boothbay Harbor, Maine, where he also held painting classes. Almost all the women who exhibited with “The Philadelphia Ten” had studied with Snell either in Philadelphia or New England. Snell also taught on Saturdays at the Grand Central Galleries in New York City. The Snells made many trips to New Hope before settling there permanently in 1925. They lived on the top floor of the Solebury National Bank Building where Henry also maintained a studio. This was located at the foot of the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge and many of Snell’s New Hope scenes were painted from this location. In 1943, Snell passed away in New Hope at the age of eighty-four. Henry Snell earned an international reputation as an artist for his paintings of Cornwall...

Changing Tides
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
An oil painting of the wetlands of Sag Harbor. Hues of greens, blues, whites and purples, make up this almost abstract landscape composition. Painted from life, at Noyac bay. Painting dimensions: 36 x 24 inches Framed dimensions: 40 x 28 inches Maryann Lucas lives and works in Sag Harbor. She is primarily self-taught but has also received instruction and support from wonderful and generous members of the East End artistic community. Working exclusively in oils, Lucas sets out almost daily to create plein aire landscapes and seascapes. In her studio, she works directly from life and captures the beauty of natural light as it transforms ordinary objects into visual delights. Lucas wants her work to celebrate all that is well with this world and brilliant in this life, despite its pockets of darkness. For me, she says, I know I am in the Presence of something beautiful, when it steals my breath, silences my mind, pushes out everything else and draws me in. I trust That. I use That to guide my hands as I arrange a still life or scan a landscape to determine where to set down my easel. Ultimately, That is what drives me to paint. Becoming evermore skilled as an oil painter is another of Lucas goals. To that end she remains teachable, finding it refreshing and vital for her own growth to paint with others. She has studied with favorite artists including Michael Klein...
