Constantin (Tin) Florias belongs to the generation of Greek artists formed between Greece and France in the early twentieth century. Born in Corfu in 1897, he trained on the island before moving to Paris after the First World War. Between 1918 and the mid-1930s he took an active part in the Parisian art scene and exhibited several times at the major Salons, including the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, the Salon d’Automne and the Salon des Tuileries.
In Paris, Florias developed his work within an international environment connected to modern artistic research. His painting is grounded in the structuring role of colour, while remaining closely linked to themes and imagery drawn from Mediterranean culture.
The painting depicts a traditional dance from Corfu, interpreted through a vivid and intense palette that conveys the movement and collective energy of the scene. The subject is treated without folkloric intent, favouring instead a synthetic and modern vision in which dance is understood as an essential and universal form.
