About the Item
"Parterre at Casa de Mateus," Acrylic on Paper over Wood Panel, Tom Fawkes (1941- present), painted 2007. This painting is so wonderfully detailed
depicting a topiary garden, that it almost has a photographic quality. This is one of two works we currently have for sale by this artist.
An MFA graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, Tom Fawkes taught at the University of Oregon and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the 1960s. From 1972 – 2004, Fawkes taught drawing and painting at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. He has been the recipient of several awards including an OAC fellowship, an NEA fellowship, and a Rockefeller Foundation grant. His works are in numerous collections including Safeco, Microsoft, the Seattle Art Museum, and the Portland Art Museum. Recently his work was included in In Passionate Pursuit: The Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Collection and Legacy at the Portland Art Museum. Acquired from the Laura Russo Gallery in 2007.
