About the Item
A superb 1950's Swedish oil on board depicting a village landscape with boat in the foreground, by Torsten Anderström.
With good size, striking colour palette and hints of cubism, this work must be considered a leading example by the artist.
Signed with initials lower right and presented in a painted wood frame.
Artist: Torsten Anderström (Swedish, 1917-2004)

Torsten Anderström studied at the Skanska malarskolan (Scanian painting school) in Malmö from 1941-1942 and under leading Swedish Modernist and Expressionist artist Isaac Grünewald in Stockholm in 1942. He also studied abroad in Amsterdam, Paris and Grenoble.
Anderström debuted at exhibition in Malmö in 1943 and subsequently continued to exhibit around Sweden during his career. He painted in oil and is best known for his landscapes (often from the district of Arild, in Höganäs, Skåne in the south of Sweden) with an abstract influence and confident colour palette. He signed his paintings with his initials.
