About the Item

Masterfully executed 19th century British oil on canvas. This fabulous piece depicts a possible battle scene at Medway, which in the 1600s the Dutch had a huge victory against the British navy. It appears to be signed or initialed lower left, but I cannot decipher. Painting measures 16 inches wide by 8 high. What looks to be the original frame measures 23 3/4 inches wide by 15 3/4 high. The painting is in very good condition and appears to have a very old relining. The frame has a few spots of missing gold paint.
