About the Item
Oil painting on panel with painted wooden frame, measurements without frame are 14.5 x 24.5 cm.
The scene depicts a typical Venetian lagoon landscape, with a bell tower in the background reflecting in the water, perhaps a reference to the island of Burano or the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore, both near Venice. In the foreground is a fisherman in a rowboat, ready to cross a narrower part of the canal, lapped by pieces of land with buildings.
The author of the painting was certainly influenced by the style of Pietro Fragiacomo, a Macchiaiolo painter born in Friuli but mainly active in the Veneto region, where he moved when he was only 12 years old with his family. but because of the much faster and less prepared technique it can be postponed to the first half of the 20th century.
