About the Item
This charming 1880s American genre scene, “At the Gates of Pinehurst,” depicts a couple driven by a coachman in horse-drawn Phaeton carriage approaching the gates of an estate just glimpsed through the tree tops. On this pleasant sunny day, a young girl with a basket of flowers stands by a stone bridge near the gates, while a dog—likely a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel—in the foreground playfully runs toward the carriage, excited to greet the newcomers.
