About the Item
The setting is the French coast, on a tranquil summer's evening. Clouds are drawing in, the sky is turning dusky pink and purple, but there is still time left for play, for the children on the beach. We see their mother doing the laundry to the left - exactly as it was still done in the early 1900s.
Although the painting is signed, with the stretcher bearing annotations concerning a sale, I have not been able to decipher the writing or signature.
The painting is presented in its original frame from Manifacier (with some repair visible), which is exactly 100 years old, as tells us the label on the verso. I have photographed it as it is quite charming. Manifacier was, of course, an award winning luxury framer in the city of Auxerre in Burgundy. The overall framed size is 52 x 71 cm.
