About the Item
We know very little about the Mechelen landscape painter Karel De San. He appears to have been mainly active during the period 1829-1848. The painterly landscape with the dramatic sky is by the romantic artists’ passion for nature. The motif of cows that do not graze in a fenced-pasture but the wild is in line with a very popular theme in 17th-century Dutch painting.
