L'opera era stata attribuita all'ambito di Hendrick Mommers (1623 -1693) in un' asta da Christie's del 1991.
Presenta un classico capriccio architettonico, ovvero un vasto paesaggio in cui sono inserite le rovine di una maestosa costruzione classicheggiante; in quest' opera sono presenti anche numerose figure che transitano sul sentiero antistante le rovine, il mandriano con il suo gregge, una donna con il bambino, una coppia in passeggiata galante.
L'opera è ancora in prima tela, in ottime condizioni di conservazione.
È presentata in cornice dorata in stile.
