Large 19th Century English scene from Lord Byrons narrative poem "Mazeppa", oil on canvas. Excellent quality circa 1880 scene from Byrons romantic legend of the Ukrainian military leader punished by being tied naked to a steed and dragged into the wilderness. The scene influenced painters of the period such as Herring and Vernet who painted depictions of the tale. Presented in a gilt frame. Unsigned
