About the Item
A charming oil study by well listed artist Josephine Haswell Miller. The scene depicts a meadow lined with trees in late autumn. Through the branches a quaint cottage can be seen in the near distance. The artist demonstrates an accomplished hand in capturing the light within the scene, showing dappled sunlight reflecting from the yellow leaves and soft shadows to the ground. There is an unfinished oil sketch to the back of the canvas showing various angles of a life model. Presented in a light wooden frame with ornate carvings. Unsigned. Provenance: from the collect of Sylvia Percival Prescott, daughter of Archibald and Josephine Haswell-Miller. On canvas.
