In the center of the scene, set in a richly vegetated landscape, stands a shepherd with his flock of sheep, caught in a moment of rest; behind them is the farmhouse with the stable.
On the back is a collection cartouche and the word "German" is handwritten on the frame, probably indicating provenance. Author's signature not present.
The painting is on first canvas, with original frame and coeval frame, re-decorated.
