A wonderful mid-century oil by French painter Pierre Bach (1906-1971). The scene depicts a serene pastoral landscape with gentle rolling hills and a softly rendered skyline. Applied with a palette knife, Bach adopts a loose, gestural style in earth tones to carefully convey the scene's tranquil, yet ever-changing atmosphere. The painting has been well presented in a distressed gilt-effect frame, adorned with floral and acanthus strapwork. Signed "P. Bach" to the lower left corner. On canvas on stretchers.
