About the Item
The painting may not illustrate your story, but it is universal—that desire to honor one’s forerunners and reflect on their daily lives. Consider the many opportunities, comforts and conveniences you have today by comparison, and experience gratitude for your ancestors’ struggles. One way is to have a painting of your mother’s or grandmother’s birthplace hanging on the wall as a reminder. Even if it’s not your own family represented here but rather another’s, it can have meaning. As it happens, this was the birthplace of Ethalinda Carpenter Dayman born on July 1, 1836. Doing a little math, we can imagine it was created by artist Louise Haisman to celebrate a mother’s upcoming 60th birthday, a gift commissioned by her loving daughter Leonie G. Tyler in 1895. Such gestures must not be forgotten.
