A serene and charming mid-century modernist riverside townscape, executed in oil onto canvas.
The composition presents a scene of everyday life, featuring a figure in the foreground, carrying a large woven basket on her head, walking along a promenade. Behind her, another figure behind leans against the wall, gazing towards the river. In the background, a bridge with repeating arches connects the town, whose buildings are rendered in block-like forms with white walls and red roofs. A sailboat drifts on the calm blue waters, adding a sense of leisure.
The painting exemplifies a modernist aesthetic with its emphasis on bold, flattened shapes and a harmonious colour palette dominated by muted tones.
The brushwork is confident and visible, with broad, gestural strokes that give the scene an expressive feel. The play of light and shadow is suggested through tonal variations rather than strict realism.
