About the Item
Two Brothers is a unique oil on canvas painting by contemporary artist Valérie de Sarrieu, dimensions are 83 cm × 116 cm (32.7 × 45.7 in).
The artwork is signed, sold unframed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This oil painting by French artist Valérie de Sarrieu features a village crossroad under a sunset sky with the silhouettes of two kids walking side by side.
These days, the artist primarily creates "sur le motif" (en plein air) paintings while outside. “Working on the place and its responsiveness, on the light of that precise moment, and its simplest and fairest reproduction,” is how she sums up her methodology. Painting from nature implies speed and discipline: Valérie de Sarrieu excels in this exercise thanks to the intimate communion she maintains with the landscape (whether natural or urban) and gives her paintings their sweet and endearing poetry.

With a bachelor’s degree in history of art, Valérie de Sarrieu mainly works today on outdoor paintings called “sur le motif” (en plein air). The artist tries to reproduce as faithfully as possible the lights of the landscapes she observes at different moments of the day, and in different seasons. The importance of light and the effect of time brings her work closer to a photographic project for which it is important to capture a short moment. Painting from nature implies speed and discipline: Valérie de Sarrieu excels in this exercise thanks to the intimate communion she maintains with the landscape and that confers to her paintings their sweet and endearing poetry. “Working on the place and its responsiveness, on the light of that precise moment, and its simplest and fairest reproduction.”
