DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
This rural landscape depicts a farmhouse amidst rolling countryside, with autumn-colored trees and a female figure dressed in blue walking along the paths. The cloudy sky, the smoking chimney, and the warm light provide a tranquil, almost nostalgic atmosphere.
The dense, expressive brushstroke with abundant impasto reveals a spontaneous yet confident execution. The colors are masterfully modulated, especially the yellows and earth tones defining vegetation, rocks, and rooftops. The balanced, enveloping composition invites the viewer to enter the scene, guiding the gaze from the foreground towards the gentle hills in the background.
Here, Vicente Rincón demonstrates his technical mastery and chromatic sensitivity within a modern figurative language that combines tradition and expressive temperament. The material treatment, the capture of Mediterranean light, and the emotional evocation of the environment relate to the best Catalan painting of the mid-20th century.
AUTHOR’S BIOGRAPHY
Vicente Rincón Garrido was born in 1892 in Fuentes de Ebro (Zaragoza). He trained at the Abel Bueno Academy before moving to Barcelona in 1917, where he developed most of his artistic career. His first solo exhibition took place in 1921, and throughout his career he exhibited in the main galleries of Barcelona: Dalmau, Parés, Busquets, and Laietanas.
He obtained First Prize at the Barcelona Spring Salon in 1923 and received a diploma at the International Exhibition of 1929. He also exhibited in Paris, where he came into contact with artists such as Van Dongen, Foujita, and Picasso.
Rincón was a versatile artist, known for his landscapes, still lifes, portraits, and popular scenes, with a style recognizable for its rich brushwork, impasto technique, and vivid palette, linked to the tradition of Mediterranean luminism. He died in Barcelona in 1958.

The style of Vicente Rincón Garrido finds affinities with other artists of his time and milieu, such as Eliseu Meifrèn, Modest Urgell, Josep Puigdengolas, or Joaquim Mir in his more restrained phases. His way of treating the landscape with energetic brushwork and harmonious color also recalls artists like Ramón Sanvisens or Rafael Durancamps in their rural postwar works.
His connection with the Catalan landscape is not only thematic but also emotional: Rincón captures an intimate, domestic, and serene vision of inhabited nature, aligned with the renewed traditional painting of the 1940s and 1950s.
