An extremely atmospheric Victorian oil of a dramatic rocky coastline. Various sailing vessels are seen braced against a stiff wind, making their way through a channel bordered by craggy rocks. A very striking scene, against a dramatic back lit sky.

Walter Heath Williams was a landscape painter who during his life lived in Bath, Topsham and Torquay. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1845–67, the British Institute and Suffolk Street. He painted landscapes, river and coastal scenes mainly in the West Country, especially Devon and Cornwall.

Walter Heath Williams
Walter Heath Williams was a landscape painter who during his life lived in Bath, Topsham and Torquay. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1845–67, the British Institute and Suffolk Street. He painted landscapes, river and coastal scenes mainly in the West Country, especially Devon and Cornwall. Williams was a master of capturing peaceful little spots of nature with their hidden homesteads and winding paths.
