‘An Undershot Mill, North Wales’ by William E. Harris (1854-1934). The painting is signed by the artist and presented in a newly commissioned bespoke gold metal leaf frame. A native of Warwickshire, William Elias Harris specialised in landscapes of the Midlands of England, North Wales, and the River Thames, especially around Windsor. Harris first exhibited with the Birmingham Society of Artists from 1879 and went on to show at many of the principle British venues including the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Glasgow Institute, Royal Hibernian Society, and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. William Harris enjoyed most success throughout the 1880s and 1890s when his work was sold by the dealer Martin Colnaghi at the Marlborough Gallery in Pall Mall, London.
