Bold Urban landscape featuring the TMG redesigned of the former Hamm's Brewery building by William (Bill) Jefferson (American, B-1956). Currently a New York artist.

After graduating from college ( BA in history), I moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in the arts. Again, I never stopped. San Francisco in the ‘70’s was a magical place, and was the perfect canvas for me. I began drawing, all of the time, everywhere. By 1980 I had begun translating my drawings into paintings.
By the time I moved to New York in 2007, my art had matured and my purpose was clear: I mean for my paintings to give the viewer a sense of calm, and wonder at the beauty of the world around us, and to serve as an antidote to the pain and suffering we all experience in life.
William Jefferson has been working and painting in San Francisco since 1971. Since 1988 he has focused on urban landscape, painting in oil, and ceramic. His many commercial jobs over the years, mainly in window and interior design, are in oil, acrylic and ceramic tile and have sharpened his sense of material, and increase his appreciation of inherent properties of his two primary mediums. After doing a series of urban rain-scapes during the 1990’s and working from his own photographs, Bill has come to concentrate on the reflections found in windows, cars, and revolving glass doors. Bill has found a favorite technique; usually using a zoom lens to compress depth and increase the level of reflective distortion.
