About the Item
Summer Resort in Michigan is an exceptional work painted by the Chicago Modernist, William Schwartz. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago shortly after emigrating to the United States from Russia. This exceptional painting depicts the resort town of Saugatuck, Michigan, and is a classic example of American Scene Painting.
Presented in a beautiful gilt frame. The painting is signed on the lower left front. The artist's name and title also appear en verso, but may not have been inscribed by the artist.
William Schwartz (1896-1977) has been collected and exhibited by important institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum, and the Detroit Institute of Arts. His paintings have been influenced by the writings and philosophies of Wassily Kandinsky and his interest in music, spirituality, color and abstract form.
