About the Item
This is one of those painting that sat half-finished in my studio. I new that it needed to get done, but at the time, I just thought it better to let it sit. Last year, after exploring tonalism painting, I wanted to finish this one with a similar feeling. Tonalism is a very simplistic, moody and soft painting. I am very pleased with the way those tall pines turned out and the glow of light coming through the path. The first portion of the painting, I actually painted from life in Northern Minnesota where there is a stand of very large pines. Many are over 500 years old. The painting is done on oil-primed linen mounted to a cradled hardboard. The sides of the cradled board (7/8 inch) have been painted black.
