About the Item
In uno sfondo naturale, con una grotta, il tronco di un'albero e un ruscello, risalta la figura di un giovane, in posizione centrale, coperto solo da un bianco perizoma cinto da un lato, che si appoggia ad un ramo. La posa del corpo, che richiama la statuaria antica, mirata alla tensione del corpo e alla valorizzazione della muscolatura, fa pensare ad uno studio accademico dal vivo. Può essere attribuita all'ambito di Antonio Ciseri per alcune somiglianze compositive, sopratutto nella figura: il volto, nella fisionomia e nei baffetti, richiama quello del San Giovanni Evangelista del "Trasporto di Cristo al sepolcro" nel Santuario della Madonna del Sasso ad Orsellina, così come la posa della testa e la pettinatura con la scriminatura centrale e i morbidi capelli mossi sembra rifarsi alla figura della Maddalena del medesimo dipinto. Similare è anche lo stesso uso della luce, quasi caravaggesco, che non è naturale ma scenografico, mirato ad evidenziare dettagli di rilevanza quasi metafisica. Anche il carnato pallido sembra rifarsi alla palette dell'artista svizzero.
In alto a destra si trova il monogramma: N e un'altra lettera illeggibile.
Da notare il ripensamento nella mano in alto, spostata poi leggermente più in basso.
