About the Item
An exceptional, large portrait of a female model in a French art studio, attributed to Edwin Eldridge (American, 1854-1926).
This wonderful painting dates to the last quarter of the 19th century and depicts a voluptuous female model standing on a platform, facing away from the viewer. She stands before artists at their easels in a room adorned with other portrait studies from floor to ceiling.
Though unsigned, the work contains provenance on the reverse that attributes the work to Edwin Eldridge (erroneously typed Edward Eldridge on the label with incorrect birth/death dates). The painting was previously part of the collection of David T. Langrock, whose daughter confirmed that the painting was by Eldridge. Eldridge studied in Paris in the late 19th century, which is when he likely painted this work. He went on to become the first Curator of the Layton Art Gallery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The work is an oil on canvas and is housed in a distressed wood frame.

Condition: Some scattered minor areas paint losses/flecks (most noticeably to the achilles heel area) and small areas of inpainting. Typical surface craquelure commensurate with age. Some minor waviness/undulation to the canvas in lower left quadrant. Housed in a distressed wood frame with green patina and natural holes. It is ready to be displayed and enjoyed!
