Here is a remarkable and historically significant collaborative oil painting executed by two figures central to 20th-century French art and design: Jean Dinh-Van, who would later become the celebrated minimalist jewelry designer, and the renowned academic painter Roger Chapelain-Midy. The work is signed on the canvas and on the stretcher, "DINH-VAN / Chapelain-Midy," attesting to its unique shared authorship. Dating from the mid/late 1940s, likely during Dinh-Van's time as a student at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (Arts Déco), this piece is a captivating study of a standing nude female model. Dinh-Van, born in 1927, was a contemporary of Bernard Buffet (b. 1928).
