About the Item
A bold and evocative pastel on paper by British artist John Alfred Begg (1903–1974), this striking Cubist nude study reflects the artist's Brutalist sensibility through angular forms and a vivid palette. Rich tones of green, orange, and rust are sharply defined by contrasting black lines, creating a dynamic composition that is both raw and refined.
While unsigned on the front, it is consistent with Begg's practice to sign works on the reverse.
Provenance: From the estate of the artist.
Newly reframed in a sophisticated, deep-textured wood frame featuring accents of orange, black, and gilded finishes. The original beige jute matting has been preserved, and the piece is protected under glass, enhancing its presentation and ensuring its longevity.
Measurements:
With frame: 17.32 in wide (44 cm) by 23.03 in high (58.5 cm).
Opening view: 9.45 in wide (24 cm) by 13.19 in (33.5 cm).
