About the Item
Julie Elise Hullgren, born July 29, 1879 in Aalborg, Denmark, died 1963, was a Danish-Swedish painter. She was the daughter of director J.G. Dinesen and Vilhelmine Marie Rodskier and from 1915 married to Oscar Hullgren. She studied art with Erik Henningsen in Copenhagen 1905–1908 and in Berlin 1909 and with Simon and Ménrad at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris were she was recognized for her way of painting in pale colours and naturalistic skin like in the Paris model. She participated several times in exhibitions with Sweden's general art association, separately she exhibited at, among others, Modern art in a home environment, Malmö museum. Together with Elvi Tondén, she exhibited at Galleri Brinken in Stockholm. Hanne's art consists of landscapes, floral still lifes, motifs from Stockholm, Öland, Skagern and Christiansö, as well as portraits, of which the one of Professor Edvard Lehmann and her husband is considered her foremost.
In the early 1950s, she donated a large sum of money to the Academy of Arts intended for Oscar and Julie Hullgren's fund, the return of which is to be distributed in the form of scholarships. Hullgren is represented at Malmö Museum, Kalmar Art Museum and National Museum, Stockholm in Stockholm.
