A student of Ménégoz at the École des Beaux-Arts in Caen, and of Jules-Louis Rame, Tastemain left for Paris in 1897, with his baccalaureate in philosophy in his pocket. He followed very classical artistic studies at the Académie Julian* with Raphaël Collin, then with Humbert, but he was also passionate about decoration and in particular the art of stained glass taught to him by Carat, the master glassmaker. A great traveler, he discovered Italy, which he fell in love with, on several occasions, Spain and England where he decorated a theater hall. Tastemain was mobilized in 1914 and participated in the entire conflict, then after the war resumed his work. He was thus commissioned by the city of Paris to restore the stained glass windows of certain churches in the capital and designed stained glass windows for certain cathedrals, such as those of Albi or Tourcoing. From 1921, he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants* and showed in particular paintings and watercolours, most often landscapes of Normandy - especially of Caen, or of Clécy where he owned a house - and of Brittany, sometimes portraits and still lifes. Thus, his work is twofold and he alternates between decorative painting* and easel painting*.
