About the Item
For me, this reclining nude spectacularly captures 1920's Paris, in life and art, at least as I understand it from the many books I have read focusing on that magical period. The model is highly stylized but retains her quiet eroticism. Leaped off the wall when I saw it for sale among other paintings. Moreau exhibited in the prestigious Paris salon show Salon d"Automne (Autumn Salon) in 1919, in the Societe Nationale show in 1920 and in the famous Salon aux Independents in 1922, where breakthrough work was shown by the most famous avant garde artists of the day. So he was admired by both traditionalists and the avant garde! Moreau was actually one of the founders of the Salon des Tuileries. Oil on canvas, signed. Comes framed and ready to hang - 28" x 41", 24" x 36" without frame. Proudly presented by Guy Lyman Fine Art, New Orleans.
