About the Item
A Vibrant, Mid-Century Modern 1960s Studio Interior Scene of a Standing Female Nude by Notable Woman Artist, Vivian Kinsley Chapin (Am. 1909-1984). Very "Mod" in style and appearance, with a wonderful Cunbist patterned use of orange, gray and ochre. Artwork size: 24” x 17” (Framed size: 25” x 18”). Provenance: Estate of the artist.
Vivan Kinsley Chapin was born in Chicago in 1909. She studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Oxbow program of Saugatuck, Michigan. VIvian Chapin exhibited at the annual Chicago and Vicinity exhibitions of Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) and in 1948 married the famed AIC Instructor, Francis Chapin. She was best known for her colorful still life and figurative paintings, and vibrant landscapes frequently depicting scenes of Martha’s Vineyard, Saugatuck, Michigan, southern Wisconsin and the Florida Keys. Her artwork can be found in the collection of the Museum of Wisconsin Art in West Bend, WI, among others. The artist died in Chicago at the age of 75 in 1984.
