"Frankenbach, Carl Jacob, German painter, draftsman, illustrator, *October 17, 1861, Oberrod near Idstein, †November 7 (February 6 according to Hartmann) 1937, Wiesbaden. – Studied: initially at the Technical University (architecture), then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Alois Gabl and Hermann von Herterich (painting); Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin under Woldemar Friedrich. Subsequently, further training at the painting school of Alois Erdtelt in Munich, with Moritz Röbbecke, and in Antwerp. Active in Wiesbaden from 1896.
His work in oil, watercolor, and ink was dedicated to his Nassau homeland. Besides landscapes, genre scenes, and cityscapes, he primarily created portraits of soldiers and studies of uniforms.
