When Ceravolo first met Chuck Close he told Chuck that he was a big influence on him and the reason that he started painting large faces in the 1970's and they discussed portrait painting. Close liked what the artist said and invited Ceravolo and his wife to his Bridgehampton studio. That is where they discussed the portrait that Ceravolo would create of Chuck Close. Ceravolo photographed Chuck in Southampton for several paintings that he was to work on. This work of art came about when Ceravolo realized that the circle shape of Close's eyeglasses and the eye of Close made for an interesting composition.
The paintings of Ceravolo have received international acclaim for more four decades. His art, came to popular attention in the 1970's, when he was commissioned to create five large scale oil on canvas portraits for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City of Frank Zappa, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Neil Young and Hall and Oats.. In addition to those, his paintings are in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few.
This is a unique one of a kind work. Signed by Ceravolo on the verso.

The paintings of Ceravolo can be found in many influential corporate and private collections, including: ELTON JOHN, ROD STEWART, HUGH M. HEFNER, PETE DAVIDSON, GRANT CARDONE, DAVID BRENNER, MONIQUE VAN VOOREN, WARNER BROS., RCA RECORDS AND SCHENLEY INDUSTRIES to name a few. His art came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create five large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City. The large oil paintings were of legendary Superstars in the music business, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Frank Zappa, Neil Young and Hall and Oates. Ceravolo started to add abstract elements to his realistic figurative oil paintings and he coined the term Portrait Illusions in 1979 which referred to the appearance of the finished painting where the color abstract areas of the painting gave the illusion that they were "floating" in front of the realistic figure which he painted in values of Gray, Black and White on the canvas. This unique technique caught the eye of many collectors and galleries and brought the work of Ceravolo to a worldwide audience. He works at his Hampton's studio creating his Urban POP paintings where he still combines colorful abstract elements with Black, White and Gray figurative images.

"Don
t Cry Long" Abstracted and Distorted Self-Portrait, One Crying Eye
Located in Detroit, MI
"Don't Cry Long" is a self-portrait of the artist and an unusual one at that in which the artist portrays herself shedding tears. Perhaps it is an expression of some grief experienced by Ms. Woodlock, but it also admonishes her to not "Cry Long" while at the same time poking fun because of her elongated face and the one lone "long" tear tracing a pattern down her face. In addition to self-portraits, Ethelyn painted commissioned portraits. In this painting her head is cocked and her famous bangs hang down her forehead. Compare two self-portraits, “Up From Under”, and “M’Eyes" to "Don't Cry Long." The major differences are the close facial view and the brilliant blood red paint that fills the entire canvas.
This painting is included in the book, "Dreams Have Wings: An Artist's Journey into Magic and Mystery" printed in the United States, 1985. She describes "Don't Cry Long" as showing how funny looking we are, if we cry too long.
