David Dew Bruner's most recent series of Fauvist-style portraits are subtly expressive, light hearted, and contemplative. Bruner applies an array of media to the canvas in thick and gestural marks that give dimension to the portrait. The model's elongated face, undoubtedly an ode to the paintings of Modigliani, is set against a light backdrop which further accentuates the artist's use of bold form and color. Lush and colorfully rendered in cool tones of blue and green, Bruner's portrait is well complemented by the dark wood of a vintage frame.
