Félix-Henri Giacomotti (1828-1909)
Painter and curator of French museum born on 19 November 1828 in Quingey and died on 10 May 1909 in Besançon,
Of Italian origin, he was naturalized French in 1849. He is a student at the drawing school of Besançon. In 1854 he obtained the Prix de Rome for painting "Abraham washing his feet to the angels", and went to Rome for the Villa Medici. On his return, he exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1859 to 1909. He obtained numerous commissions, including a ceiling for the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris, The Glory of Rubens, today at the Hôtel des Échevins in Bourges.
He was appointed director of the municipal school of fine arts and curator of the museum of Besançon until his death. Félix-Henri Giacomotti practices history14000 and religious painting. He also painted portraits and female nudes influenced by William Bouguereau and Alexandre Cabanel.
He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor on August 15, 1867.
Giacomotti is the author of the Repos de la Sainte Famille of the north transept of the church Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris, on which Joseph swaddles the child Jesus.
His 4 paintings of the church of Saint-Martin de Quingey were inaugurated on May 8, 1892 by Hippolyte Rigny, canon and parish priest of Saint-Pierre de Besançon.
A monographic exhibition was held in Étampes in 2005.
