ARTIST: John Nicolson RBA RSW (1891-1951) British
TITLE: "Male Nude In The Studio"
MEDIUM: oil on canvas laid to board
SIZE: 48cm x 37cm incl frame
CONDITION: very good
NOTES: Born in London, he studied at St.Martins School of Art and exhibited widely including RSW 33, RBA 29, RA 12, ROI 2, RHA13, RSA 20 times. He was elected to the Royal Society Of British Artists 1929 and the Royal Watercolour Society 1930. Alongside his paintings he was also an illustrator
printmaker being elected ARE(Royal Society Of Painters-Etchers) Shared a house in South London between 1923-26 with the artist Edmund Blampied. Nicolson was awarded Silver Medal at the Paris Salon in 1946. Nicolson died in a traffic accident in London in 1951. This work came from a family descendent of Nicolson along with a large number of other works by the artist. These have been newly framed having been held unframed in a portfolio for the last 70 years since his death.
