Antique Impressionist oil portrait painting of a man with a high collar and moustache signed and dated 1909 in the top left corner. This is a typical chiaroscuro portrait. The background is a dark mix of browns and burnt sienna which illuminates the facial features sculptured by the artist. The light, highlighted by thickened oils and coming from the left, travels down the painting from the man's forehead and is further illuminated by the crisp white of his shirt and waistcoat. The subtle ambience of this painting creates a Victorian classic atmosphere and it would go well in a traditional home, perhpas next to darker furniture.
