Il dipinto è firmato e datato in alto a destra MGordigiani 78 e le misure senza cornice sono 58 x 73 cm
Raffigura una fanciulla con lo sguardo incantato, la bocca socchiusa e la testa appoggiata sopra le mani giunte, in un atteggiamento sognante e delicato, come evidenziato anche dalla scelta della palette dai colori tenui a creare un'ambiente magico.
L'opera fa parte della maturità artistica di Gordigiani, in cui si notano sia le influenze della lezione macchiaiola che quelle del clima parigino, dove visse per qualche tempo, ben rappresentate dalle pennellate veloci e vibranti ma dalla definizione dei tratti del volto per mostrare la complessità dell'animo umano.
Michele Gordigiani, fiorentino, fu uno dei ritrattisti più ricercati del suo tempo, chiamato da tutta la nobiltà europea e dall'elité culturale del periodo, voluto anche Oltreoceano.

Michele Gordigiani
Michele Gordigiani dealt with the genre scenes and historical-mythological framework. He always devoted himself more frequently to portraits, a genre that brought him fame in Italy and worldwide. At the Academy's Annual Exhibition, in 1854, he presented two male portraits, still tied to academic schemes. Since 1855, he frequented the Caffè Michelangiolo with his brother Anatolio, a place where artists who will give life to the Macchiaioli movement, to which he adhered with conviction to new artistic research. Here, he became friends with Giovanni Fattori, Telemaco Signorini, Diego Martelli, Cristiano Banti and in particular with Angiolo Tricca, becoming one of the animators of the group of innovators, which often met in his studio.
